On Thursday, June 13th, we were visited by cameramen from the Destination America TV show, BBQ Pitmasters. They were in town on their way to Tryon to film at the Blue Ridge BBQ Festival started by Jim Tabb. Don’t know if we’ll see any screen time but it was fun having them here. Watch the season finale of Pitmasters for possible coverage.
June is turning out to be a great month for us in terms of magazine features. First we got a shout-out in O, The Oprah Magazine now we’ve gotten a mention as a runner-up in Southern Living’s 2013 ‘Cue Awards as one of SL Reader’s “Best Rib-Stickin’ Joints”. We were not even on the original voting list and it was write-ins that earned us this honor. Thanks to all who voted! We were hoping for a mention of our Future Legends of BBQ event but are still thrilled with the mention.
In the June 2013 issue of O Magazine Gayle King speaks of her love of BBQ and includes a few of her Twitter followers’ favorites as well which, thankfully, includes a mention of Hubba Hubba Smokehouse. Now we’re just waiting for Oprah and Gayle to roadtrip here. Hey, it could happen!
Thanks for all who voted during Southern Living’s “South’s Best Ribs” poll. We had a great showing with some stiff competition. Our real desire was to get exposure for the Future Legends of BBQ kid’s competition and hopefully we did.

Our own Starr Teel and Hubba Hubba Smokehouse were awarded the Blue Ridge Small Business Growth Award at a ceremony held at Appalachian Brewery May 21st. We wish to thank Erika McGilley with TD Bank (pictured below) for supporting and nominating us.
We are proud to share this honor with fellow winners – Clean Streak Inc., Blue Ridge Lighting Supply, Summit Marketing Group, United Federal Credit Union, Evergreen Medical Services Inc., Henderson County Farm Bureau Insurance, Housing Assistance Corporation and Mind Your Business Inc.
And of course, we would like to thank all our loyal fans, followers, Hubba Hubba regulars and employees for supporting us these past 5 years. We truly couldn’t have done it without you.
During winter/spring 2012, Hubba Hubba embarked on a large renovation project. The gravel lot was replaced with stone pavers making it more accessible to all. Stone planters and retaining walls were installed for aesthetics and practicality allowing the outdoor eating area to be leveled. A large stone fireplace was also installed with a covered outdoor seating area and a new tree was planted to replace an old tree which was removed. Finally, a large metal sculpture was installed to add whimsy to the outdoor seating area and to welcome guests to Little Rainbow Row.
With the return of warm weather, we have brought our popular fish tacos back to the menu early. Fridays and Saturdays, enjoy 2 fish tacos, avocado slaw and salsa fresca for $11.95 plus tax. Pictured below is Noele Neidig with the first fish taco of the 2012 season.
New this year are our fish bowls. Also available Fridays & Saturdays only, our fish bowls are a new favorite. Choose from smoked salmon or smoked shrimp (or a combination) over Asian slaw. The slaw is a mix of shredded cabbage, crunchy noodles (think Ramen), red and black quinoa, sunflower seeds and grilled veggies or fruit mixed with nutty toasted sesame oil. Fish bowls are also $11.95 plus tax.
